Member Service Representatives’ role as an Energy Advisor is to facilitate installation of electric services, evaluate electric usage and to promote energy and non-energy programs with members and contractors in a professional manner. This position requires strong technical knowledge to educate and consult with members on commercial or residential energy conservation, construction, and program offerings. Excellent written and oral communication is required, along with patience and the ability to explain programs and processes to ensure member satisfaction.
Education, Skills and Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent with an Associate’s degree preferred.
Specialized training in electrical, mechanical, or customer relations preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of customer service experience preferred
Must have good computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software.
Must have excellent communication skills
Possess the qualifications, experience, and skills deemed appropriate by management
Possess a valid driver’s license

Summary: Member Service Representatives’ role as an Energy Advisor is to facilitate installation of electric services, evaluate electric usage and to promote energy and non-energy programs with members and contractors in a professional manner. Responsibilities: Member Services: • Facilitate requests for new electric services, service upgrades and service relocation • Perform analysis in terms of energy usage or for improvement in energy efficiency for heating, cooling, water heating, motors, lighting and appliances • Perform on-site energy evaluations when necessary • Promote, educate and enroll members in Load Management Programs • Analyze members’ energy needs in order to accurately size transformers and service size, determine metering needs, appropriate delivery voltages and billing schedules • Work with residential and commercial members, electrical contractors and other cooperative personnel to coordinate upgrades of services based on the member’s needs • Resolve service issues by clarifying the member’s concern, determining the cause of the problem, selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, expediting corrections or adjustments where necessary, and following up to ensure resolution and communicating results • Serve as the initial point of contact for members who are installing distributed generation and/or renewable energy systems at their homes or businesses. This may include helping to educate members about renewable energy options, costs, benefits, etc. • Create service orders on member’s behalf and forward to the correct department • Process rebates for members • Input members’ service orders or requests into the appropriate software or database • Work with other departments/personnel with any unique or unordinary work that the member wishes to schedule • Work as a team member to assure member satisfaction • Use appropriate verbal and written skills to communicate with difficult members • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of electric distribution systems, overall cooperative operation and principals preferred • Knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems preferred • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and ability to learn utility specific software programs
Education/Experience Requirements • Associates Degree preferred • Working experience in electrical, mechanical, construction or related field preferred • Energy Auditing or energy efficiency evaluation experience preferred • Customer service experience • Cooperative experience is preferred • Notary Public or ability to gain Notary Public Commission
Basic Requirements • Hold a valid driver’s license in the state of Minnesota • Take initiative of projects and hold one’s self accountable for workload with minimal supervision • Deal with stresses related to work events • Be able to be on a rotating on-call schedule that requires nights and weekends • Basic mathematical reasoning and cost/benefit analysis skills
Physical Requirements • Withstand sitting for long periods of time while looking at a computer screen • Occasional bending, reaching, and light lifting • Requires some travel throughout the Cooperative’s service territory
