Position Purpose & Responsibilities: As part of NHA’s policy team, the Regulatory and Markets Specialist plays a critical role in the association’s work to advance policies on behalf of its member organizations that encourage the continued use and growth of all forms of waterpower (including hydropower, pumped storage, and marine energy technologies). This position will report to and directly support NHA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs and Markets.
Responsibilities:
Support NHA’s Regulatory Affairs and Markets Director to ensure that the waterpower industry’s voice is heard at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and in other federal regulatory arenas, as well in FERC-jurisdictional wholesale electricity markets.
Perform research and analytics to enhance NHA’s fact-based advocacy.
Evaluate energy, emissions, and economic data from numerous sources such as Energy Information Administration, ISO/RTOs, Environmental Protection Agency for use in the association’s advocacy- and communications-related activities.
Leverage this research, analytics, and data to support the entire NHA policy team.
Assist in support of key NHA Committees and Councils, including Regulatory Affairs, Markets, and Pumped Storage, including providing member organizations and their employees insights and guidance on implementation of recently enacted federal laws, as well as creating regular opportunities for contacts of member organizations to connect with and learn from one another.
Support NHA’s targeted engagement in state regulatory proceedings.
Regularly contribute to NHA’s efforts to inform and educate its members and the industry via in-person events, virtual webinars, e-newsletters, and social media, including identifying relevant topics, recruiting/confirming speakers, writing articles and posts, soliciting contributions, and providing references and resources.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience working on public policy issues on Capitol Hill, in a public affairs firm, at a trade association, or at a federal agency required.
Comfort or desire to learn Excel, GIS, Tableau, and similar tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Washington, D.C.,-based preferred, but not required.
Desire to learn and a healthy sense of humor required.
