Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, an expeditionary learning school, is seeking an experienced, dynamic, collaborative school counselor to work part or full-time with our school and community.
The successful candidate will understand the developmental needs of children (ages 3-14), using their knowledge to promote the school's character traits of compassion, courage, respect, trust, honesty and stewardship. Energy, compassion, and humor will be key traits to accomplish the job.
Our school counselor works with many age groups and classes on our campus. The counselor works closely with our staff and families to support children in their academic and social growth. Our teachers are committed to the social emotional development of every child, which is at the core of the teaching and learning here at Arts & Sciences. Therefore, the ideal candidate must have experience working within a school community.

Qualifications and Attributes
Masters in Art Therapy, Counseling, or Social Work
Independently Licensed Art Therapist, Counselor, or Social Worker
Certifications or extensive training in art therapy, play therapy, sand tray, children’s mental health
Has experience discussing topics related to: mindfulness, emotional regulation, identity, friendships, consent, racism/classism, gender, sexuality, puberty, and issues of emotional distress and self-harm
Has worked in a school setting and/or with groups of children from preschool - 8th grade.
Has experience working collaboratively with parents, families, and teams of teachers.
Is able to understand the developmental needs of 3-14 year olds and apply this toward working within the classroom, in small groups, and one-on-one
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Communicating with staff and faculty to best provide support for students
Responsible and effective communication with families
Create, maintain and promote a safe, nurturing learning environment that responds to students' academic, social, and emotional growth
Working collaboratively with a team of teachers and administrators
Working with the larger community network of support for referrals, crisis intervention, and planning visiting experts to share with students, staff and community
Conduct one-on-one and small group sessions with students as needed
Teaching 2-4 small group Health & Wellness or Life Skills classes for grades 3-8
Effective time management and scheduling skills
Willing to attend field trips with classes, some of which are overnight
Attend staff and divisional meetings, workshops and conferences
Attending some evening and community events
Professional Development
Faculty and staff at Arts & Sciences develop a culture where professional development is expected and embedded in the daily fabric of our school. Professional development includes large group presentations, grade level or team meetings, workshops, peer observations, team teaching, and offsite institutes and workshops.
Pay Rate and Salary
This position is 20-30 hours per week and will be paid in the range of $40-50/hour depending on experience.
