The School of Architecture, in the College of Architecture and Planning, at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin in the fall of 2024. The UA SoA is located in the unique Sonoran region and prepares students to address complex social and environmental challenges of our day. The Design and Spatial Justice position requires applicants to demonstrate work that engages with ethical challenges embedded in design practice, research, and pedagogy. We are interested in candidates whose work crosses disciplinary boundaries and who employ creative and/or heterodox pedagogies and intellectual frameworks to address decolonial, non-Western, feminist, antiracist, and intersectional approaches to the built environment through their teaching, research, and creative practice.

The successful candidate will employ methodologies from social science (but not limited to) and other research regarding systemic inequities in architecture and urbanism, spatial forms of oppression, historically marginalized communities, housing equity and policy, environmental justice, food sovereignty, and cultural identity. The selected candidate will be expected to lead design studios, workshops and seminars at both the undergraduate and graduate level, to advise graduate students, and to participate actively in the intellectual, cultural and administrative life of the School. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal, collaborative, and interdisciplinary skills. As educators, candidate is expected to conceive, develop and administer new coursework and to teach spatial justice integration in undergraduate and graduate design studios.

The SoA is home to NAAB accredited programs including the B.Arch, M.Arch and a research oriented MS.Arch. School enrollments have increased by 30% in the past few years. UA is a Hispanic Serving Institution and committed to partnering with Indigenous communities throughout the southwest. The Drachman Institute is a community based research and outreach center in the college, with labs focused on housing equity, resilience, and industry innovation. Research collaborations are active between the SoA and faculty in the College of Humanities, Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics Department, The Arizona Institute for Resilience, Institute for Energy Solutions, Center for Integrative Medicine / Institute on Place, Wellbeing and Performance, as well as the College of Science, School of Business and School of Art.
