(a) To provide effective customer service on a day-to-day basis. To provide efficient, accurate and courteous service that will increase satisfaction and promote goodwill between the Cooperative and its members.
(b) To research and recommend changes in operations and equipment to better utilize the electric system to ensure that members will have reliable and affordable service now and in the future.
(c) Oversees the daily operation maintenance and construction of the electric distribution and transmission systems, and
(d)Oversees all the daily engineering functions of the Cooperative including but not limited to management of the Engineering Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Below is a list of typical duties for which the Vice President of Engineering & Operations will be accountable/responsible. This list is not intended to include all responsibilities of this position but an outline of tasks indicative of the overall function of this job. Responsibilities/duties of the Vice President of Engineering & Operations include, but are not limited to:
(a) Supporting, understanding, and also personally performing all duties in accordance with applicable safety and Cooperative policy manuals, as well as reporting hazardous conditions and needed maintenance in the office in a timely manner;
(b) Conducting regular staff meeting with the engineering and operations personnel;
(c) Developing long and short-range plans for the improvements of the electric power distribution system, transmission system and substations;
(d) Oversees electric system studies, the development of Five-Year construction work plans, new delivery point applications and other planning-related studies; presents the plans to Cooperative management for review and approval;
(e) Responsible for inspections, maintenance and improvements associated with distribution and transmission lines and substations;
(f) Participating in the engineering/operations portion of cost-of-service studies, and other feasibility studies;
(g) Reviews plans and programs developed under his/her direction, obtains necessary approvals and coordinates with other departments to secure implementation;
(h) Oversees the development and operations of the Dispatch department;
(i) Oversees the management of contractors involved in line construction and maintenance, tree trimming, right-of-way clearing, substation lot maintenance, and other field support activities to ensure quality, schedule and cost expectations are met;
(j) Represents the cooperative in negotiations and planning meetings with representatives of power and transmission suppliers and other electric utilities to obtain agreements, exchange planning and operating data and obtain maximum benefits of interconnected system operations;
(k) Oversees the development and operations of SREMC SCADA;
(l) Maintains up-to-date Spill Prevention Guide and Arc Flash Studies;
(m)Responsible for the overall direction and regulatory compliance for Energy Loss Prevention and oversees the process for controls and loss prevention in all systems areas;
(n) Overseeing/coordinating the purchasing of equipment for maintenance, development, performance and improvement to the electric system, engineering portion of cost-of-service studies;
(o) Oversees the management of fleet vehicles, tools and equipment and other apparatus related to line construction and maintenance;
(p) Preparing/reviewing invoices for Accounting for the reconciliation of transmission, substation and distribution system upgrade expenditures;
(q) Overseeing the process of establishing yearly departmental goals;
(r) Supporting departmental operations/goals and contributing to improved cost, quality, productivity and/or a competitive position for the cooperative;
(s) Completing annual personal goals assigned by management;
(t) Oversees the training and development of new personnel;
(u) Development of information for auditors and financial consultants within assigned area of responsibility;
(v) Completing/reviewing annual direct report employee/s evaluations;
(w) Participating and assisting with the Cooperative’s Annual Meeting as needed.
(x) Reporting problems and conditions/situations which warrant immediate resolution promptly to management;
(y) Attending scheduled meetings;
(z) Personal productivity and adherence to schedules and deadlines for assigned work;
(aa) Providing assistance to other departments as needed and helping maintain good company morale;
(bb) The ability to file, maintain records and uphold confidentiality and security;
(cc) Keeping assigned work area clean, neat and organized at all times;
(dd) Performance of related duties as assigned or necessary.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a registered Professional Engineer’s License are required. Certification in power system modeling preferred. Additionally, undergraduate level training in leadership or business management is desired.
EXPERIENCE
Fifteen (15) years minimum experience in an electric utility directly related to Engineering and/or Operations functions. Ten (10) years’ experience in a management/supervisory role preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Must have extensive knowledge of electric distribution systems, including their design and operation. Thorough knowledge of substation design, power system protection theory, and emerging distributive generation technologies. Must have general knowledge of transmission system operation and maintenance procedures. Must have a working knowledge of associated programs and software, including but not limited to: Engineering Studies Software, AMI and SCADA Systems, Metering, and Outage Management Systems. Must have a thorough knowledge of and be able to apply sound engineering principles as they apply to the electric utility industry. Must have an excellent grasp of local and federal laws and regulations. Must be able to perform all duties and requirements associated with the position.

Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality in the performance of duties and responsibilities of the job. Must have good written and oral communication skills, good decision-making skills, good mathematical skills, and multitasking skills. Must have considerable skill in effectively dealing with a variety of people under different and sometimes difficult circumstances. Must be proficient with a variety of computer programs and should be familiar with other general office equipment. Must be able to provide executive leadership for a team at various levels to ensure they work with the purposive synergy required in attaining the business objective. Must be able to organize and carry out delegated work and handwriting must be neat and legible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Required to pass a physical examination and drug test when employed. Must have the physical ability to perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the job, which include, but are not limited to: tasks requiring a variety of physical activities involving muscular strain related walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. This position may require occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 80 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Essential functions require talking, hearing, seeing, and complex eye and hand dexterity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(a) Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License
(b) Must be available for callouts during emergency situations
(c) Must be available for scheduled after-hours training
WORK CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Indoors work is typically performed in the office sitting at a desk or table, which may be located in or near the warehouse. Work performed outdoors, weather may be extreme, exposes employee to a noisy environment, vibration, risk of electrical shock, climbing during an emergency, and to machinery and its moving parts.
Remote Work - Will be considered after 6 months in this position. This position will potentially be able to work remotely 2 days a week (M-F) with the possibility of an Alternate Work Schedule (40 hours in a Workweek but does not work 8-hour workdays each day).
