Job Summary
The Camp Director reports directly to the Head of School. S/he develops and supervises The Well School’s Summer Camps and programs, all of which provide exploratory learning enrichment opportunities. S/he will seek to increase the school’s visibility with prospective students, peer institutions, and other organizations in the wider community.
Start date on campus for this position estimated to be 6/3/24 - 8/16/24 with minimal remote work (1-3 hours per week) starting this winter.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The Camp Director will:
Develop, schedule, and oversee the school’s summer camp operation.
Devise and manage the registration processes for summer camp.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a cadre of competent and properly trained staff members to organize and facilitate the summer camp, ensuring that all instructors perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Schedule regular meetings with program staff and instructors to evaluate, develop, and implement instruction that reflects the vision of the school and meets optimal standards of safety.
Provide performance evaluations and feedback for staff involved with summer camps.
Monitor student progress, establish standards of student behavior to provide a productive environment, and handle disciplinary issues in programs as appropriate.
Lead camp programs or sessions as needed.
Ensure optimal condition and safety of all equipment and facilities.
Arrange for thoughtful communications with and events for parents of the students.
Create, maintain, and communicate all necessary records for the summer camp.
Partner with the Director of Admissions to identify and recruit qualified students to potentially participate in the full year (school plus camp) program.
Work with the Business Manager to develop a budget and ensure the profitability of the program.
Collaborate with the Director of Communications to create print and online marketing materials for the summer camp program, produce the catalog of summer camp offerings, and generate enthusiasm for and promote the program’s success.
Represent and serve as official spokesperson for The Well School’s summer programs at local events, fairs, and festivals.
Prepare appropriate summary reports for the school, the trustees, and the public.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
At least 3 to 5 years of teaching, leading, and/or administrative experience in a camp, school, or youth-serving organization
Supervisory experience
Successful track record working with a wide range of people
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Exceptional entrepreneurial and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively
Computer literacy
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
