The Board of Directors of Sunflower Electric Power Corporation (Sunflower) invites applications for the position of President and CEO. The Board has engaged Holmes Executive Search LLC to facilitate the search process.

The successful candidate must demonstrate high integrity, strong business acumen, outstanding leadership skills, and a commitment to safety. Boardroom experience and focus is strongly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong relationship building, have strong written and interpersonal communication skills, and be member focused. A proven track record as an innovative problem solver who is results driven and visionary and strategic in decision-making is expected.

Requirements include the following:

• Extensive progressive, senior-level electric industry leadership experience (min. 5 years)
• A comprehensive understanding of power supply and transmission planning, financing, and operations
• A bachelor’s degree and an appetite for continued growth

Proven management, team building, and development experience skills are crucial. Electric cooperative experience and a commitment to cooperative business principles and values are strongly preferred, and a strong understanding of the electric power industry’s legislative and regulatory issues is essential.

In 1957, six western Kansas distribution cooperatives formed Sunflower on the cooperative business model to provide wholesale generation and transmission services. The six cooperatives could have chosen other business models, but they didn’t. In 2022, SEPC had 4.66 million MWH sales, with a summer peak of 927 MW resulting in revenue of $371.7M and total utility plant of $1.5B. Sunflower owns and operates 2,400 miles of transmission line in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) and owns and operates generation facilities in Great Bend, Dodge City, Liberal, Garden City, Clifton, Holcomb, and Ulysses, Kansas.

Sunflower works with all segments of the electric industry, investor-owned, federal, municipal, and cooperatives within the state and in surrounding states to provide bulk power supply. Sunflower enters into interconnection agreements whenever possible to make maximum use of existing facilities and resources.

Sunflower is headquartered in Hays, Kansas, Visit Hays  home to 21,116 people. Industrial, commercial, and retail growth in recent years has established Hays as the retail and trade center for northwest Kansas. Hays has one of the finest medical facilities in western and central Kansas and is fortunate to be surrounded by productive agricultural land and large underground oil reserves. The city has a strong education system, including Fort Hays State University, and has plentiful cultural and outdoor recreational activities, including the Sternberg Museum of Natural History.
