GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Develops and supervises the execution of commercial strategy for the Port. Serves as the primary point of contact for all potential customers. Directs and supervises the activities of staff involved in Trade Development. Performs or supervises all market research activities conducted with a view toward generating new business revenues for the Port. Under the supervision of the Port Director, recommends tariff changes as needed. Maintains relationships with existing customers. Maintains contact with shippers, railroads, trucking, and shipping companies. Travels to domestic and foreign destinations to develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential Port clients. Monitors cost and other trends for the Port and for competing ports (i.e., tariffs, drayage, intermodal transfer costs, trucking or railroad to origin/destination, time delay costs, etc.) Selectively uses shipping databases to identify specific cargoes, shippers, and carriers by these trends. Works with existing and potential customers assisting in the development of competitive logistic strategies.
The preferred candidate will be professional, dynamic, energetic, positive, a self-starter; proactive; must possess confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy. They will also be team-oriented, be an organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the Port of Pascagoula.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A degree major in business, finance, economics or related fields, combined with suitable experience marketing in the maritime industry. Ten years of executive commercial experience, which includes at least five years of direct involvement in marketing or sales of services in the maritime industry. Previous carrier experience. Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing in the English language. Skills in other languages are also desired. Has the ability to independently formulate sound business plans and budgets that fit within the resources reasonably available, and which have a high probability of successful results.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
1. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. 2. Excellent verbal and written communication ability. 3. Problem-solving abilities to handle customers’ concerns. 4. A working knowledge of and business experience in the maritime industry involving both national and international trade. 5. A working knowledge of the regulatory structures affecting U. S. ports, such as the DOT, ICC FMC and other regulatory bodies. 6. Knowledge of and familiarity in applying rate and tariff structures typically employed by U. S. ports, especially ports on the Gulf of Mexico. 7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 8. Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
