SUMMARY:
The Middle School seeks a leave replacement to teach 8th grade science. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to teach four sections and to work with a dynamic team of science teachers within the larger 5-12th grade department. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and is eager to support Middle School aged students in learning how to take an active role in their own learning. We are looking for candidates who have also demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside the classroom. Masters is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections of 8th grade Physical Science (introductory physics and chemistry)
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Participate in extracurricular programs as a coach or club supervisor
Provide supervision during recess, and at other times during the school day, as needed
Attend 8th grade team and advisor meetings and Middle School faculty meetings
Participate in the life of the middle school by attending full group activities including Middle School Gatherings, student presentations, performances and culminating events.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Science and/or Science education required. Masters preferred
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students. Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students is ideal
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Familiarity with and/or willingness to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficiency in the use of technology
