A day in the life
• Monitor, respond to, and control the distribution system using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system and other processes of technology.
• Receive, record, and relay requests or calls for unplanned and planned service outages, power quality issues, billing, safety, and system integrity issues.
• Process emergency locates for excavation.
• Determine the severity and location of outages; prioritize outage situations and power quality issues.
• Monitor compliance and enforce hold tag procedures.
• Direct and record all switching activity.
• Analyze alarms, interpret data, and properly notify or dispatch appropriate personnel.
• Monitor and prepare to respond to local and regional weather systems.
Requirements
A two-year degree related to distribution system operations, electrical engineering technology, or system design, plus two years of related experience; or a mix of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Possess a high level of integrity and respect and maintain confidentiality.
• Clearly and calmly communicate ideas and facts, in writing and orally, in a stressful environment.
• Perform basic mathematical computations such as addition and subtraction.
• Resolve routine inquiries relating to operations through research and investigation.
• Use logic and reasoning to work through unique situations.
• Read maps for dispatching line personnel to outage sites.
• Multi-task to complete projects while monitoring radio and system data.
• Understand electrical distribution system control room equipment and software applications.
• Understand electrical distribution construction practices.
