Hybrid Remote Schedule
This role has the option to be a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision. Our hybrid remote work schedule combines three (3) days on premises with up to two (2) days remote.
Considering Different Levels
The following levels are open for consideration: Payroll Specialist and Lead Payroll Specialist.
All skill levels are being considered and the person chosen for the position will be placed in the level in which they are experienced.
Key Roles
This position performs and leads activities necessary to achieve accurate, timely, and confidential completion of biweekly payroll in accordance with GAAP, RUS, IRS regulations, and EKPC policies and procedures. In addition, the position maintains related records, coordinates the payroll calendar, balances payroll related accounts monthly, documents and updates procedures, mentors less experienced staff, and provides ad hoc reports to the organization and external entities. The position prepares all monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll related tax filings and IRS Form W-2s for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Monitors and coordinates deadlines for collection and reporting of payroll data and audit reports, and analyzes PeopleSoft processes.
Verifies completion of bi-weekly payroll and general ledger interface processes, and provides documentation required to authorize release of payroll and tax deposits.
Coordinates with IT to maintain the payroll system and initiate improvements.
Completes reporting and resolves compliance issues for state and federal regulatory agencies.
Assists in the development of the organization¿s payroll budget.
Processes time and labor and verifies accuracy of reporting.
Prepares, balances, and coordinates biweekly, quarterly, and year-end taxes and tax forms.
Balances monthly general ledger activity report for tax accounts.
Prepares IRS Form W-2s for the organization and reconciles all activity.
Maintains all confidential files relating to payroll functions.
Prepares reports for Accounting leadership.
Calculates and records non-cash taxable benefits for all applicable employees.
Remains current with payroll related laws and regulations and recommends changes to policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Serves as a backup to other payroll team members.
Mentors less experienced staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
Experience:
Payroll Specialist: Five (5) years of related experience.
Lead Payroll Specialist: Seven (7) years of related experience.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations affecting payroll functions.
Strong knowledge of taxable benefits.
General knowledge of accounting.
Proficient in use of ERP payroll and time and labor module, PeopleSoft preferred.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization including external contacts.
Provides thorough and timely communication to leadership and team.
