United Electric Cooperative (United) is seeking an Engineering Manager. The preferred start date is as soon as reasonably possible.
The new Engineering Manager will be responsible for system planning, distribution design, substation design, substation maintenance, support of the Cooperative’s reliability programs, and maintenance of the Cooperative’s Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The Engineering Manager must also have extensive knowledge of regulations and reports as required by local, state, federal, and industry agencies. Must also know and understand equipment, including distribution, substations, and metering of electric energy. Additionally, be able to translate technical engineering information, work on multiple tasks at a time, delegate, and deal with emergencies as they arise especially during a storm. This will require you to assist with storms in the office along with the Operations Manager and/or Line Superintendent.
Essential Functions
-Act as a resource to all Cooperative members with respect to engineering functions.
-Develop a department budget and staffing requirements.
-Ensures on-going communication with all necessary employees including the Board of Directors.
-Work directly with the operations department.
-Manage strategic planning in the area of load growth.
-Manage the development and production of all necessary short- and long-term work plans.
-Manage, monitor, develop, and suggest improvements to the Cooperative’s system reliability programs.
-Manage the design, staking, metering, and development of all plans required to construct new services, work plan improvements, and other system improvement projects.
-Manage the design and development of new or upgrade of substations and distribution lines.
-Manage all protective equipment coordination studies.
-Manage the GIS-based mapping systems to ensure accurate, up-to-date information.
-Manage relationships with the Cooperative’s external engineering consulting firms.
-Accessible 24 hours per day to assist with outages and emergencies.
-Able to visit outdoor job locations in sometimes inclement weather and difficult field terrain.
- Manage the processes and procedures related to right-of-way easements, territorial boundaries, joint use agreements and invoices.
-Have knowledge of vegetation management, pole inspections, and 811 utility locations.
Requirements
-A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering discipline.
-Experience within an electric utility.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Demonstrated success engaging with and leading a diverse team.
-A demonstrated ability to work collectively with the board of directors, managers, and employees.
-A demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with key external consultants.
-Ability to plan, develop, and execute strategic plans to support the objectives of the Cooperative.
-Ability to maintain open, positive relationships with a wide range of groups, including Cooperative members, employees, industry groups, and the public.
-Ability to analyze and make sound decisions based on actual and projected issues and concerns related to the delivery of energy.
-Ability to make decisions that will impact the engineering integrity and reputation of the Cooperative including emergency situations.
