Position Title: Upper School Drama and Theater Teacher
Faculty Position: 2025-26 Academic Year
Hawaii Preparatory Academy seeks a creative, energetic, and collaborative teacher to serve as the Upper School Drama and Theater Teacher.The upper school drama and theater teacher will actively engage with students in class and involves working outside regular school hours for rehearsals, performances, and US Fall Musical and other productions. The teaching assignment can include acting, costume design, theater design, technique, musical theater, and vocal rehearsals.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Instruct five classes of students in grades 9-12 in the dramatic/theatre arts.
Be a member of a grade-level advisory group and support a small group of students within an advisory cohort.
Post all assignments on time on the school's SMS (MyHPA/Blackbaud) and promptly provide individual student feedback on progress and earned marks.
Develop and implement programming and training methods that serve to teach vocal and physical expression, the development of acting styles and character, and personality projection.
Produce and direct yearly productions, including a fall musical.
Identify and teach individual learning styles, utilizing resources in the learning center and implementing AI and other instructional tools as needed.
Obtain and maintain proper licensure for driving a school vehicle as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in theater, acting, drama, music, musical theatre or related subject.
Professional theatre experience desired.
High School Performing Arts teaching experience required.
Creativity, ingenuity, flexibility, high energy, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
Proven ability to collaborate with other teachers, departments, and faculty.
Desire to work as a team player with faculty, staff, and administrators.
Ability to interact professionally with parents and community members.
Emotional resilience and dependability to meet the demands of the position.
Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management techniques and strategies.
Physical Demands
Be able to sit at the desk and computer terminal for extended periods.
Be able to lift 30 pounds of weight.
