Position Summary: Ashley Hall seeks a mission-alignedFrench Teacher. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional and experienced lower school educator with a deep commitment to making a significant difference in the lives of our students. The successful candidate possesses the requisite skills to make learning joyful and meaningful for students, bringing creativity and dynamism to the classroom and beyond through interactive activities and lessons that contributes to the learning that occurs in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Reporting directly to the Director of the Lower School, the French Department Chair, and collaborating closely with colleagues who teach French in other grades, the French Teacher ensures the continued growth of the discipline in a dynamic and authentic way.
Key Requirements: The World Languages Department at Ashley Hall uses a language acquisition model that incorporates Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), cultural studies, as well as natural connections to core content areas for students. The ideal candidate will be able to design and implement a language curriculum based on ACTFL standards, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme curriculum framework, and other authentic resources. Additionally, they should possess optimism, energy, and an excellent sense of humor.
Major Responsibilities:
Plan and implement curriculum and instruction in French and Francophone language and cultures.
Collaborate with colleagues within the Lower School division and throughout the school as a whole, sharing responsibilities for International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme curriculum development and divisional priorities.
Facilitate active learning by implementing CLT techniques with a goal of 90% target language usage with students.
Design and implement inquiry-based project learning experiences, guided by student interests.
Implement classroom instruction that includes whole group, small group, and individualized instruction.
Prepare assignments for students, review and provide feedback and/or grades.
Provide timely and targeted conversations with parents as needed to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students and to foster strong parent/school partnerships.
Communicate clearly and work well with parents and colleagues.
Pursuing professional development as it relates to curriculum development, health and safety of students.
Collaborating with department members to plan and implement language and cultural based student travel opportunities across the school, including chaperoning responsibilities.
Other duties include:
Assisting at car-pool (drop off and pick up of students), lunch and recess duty.
All other duties as assigned by the division director.
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in French (or applicable field)
Teaching experience using a student-centered approach to include blended learning strategies and individualized instruction.
The ability to design and implement an engaging and inquiry-based curriculum with a culturally responsive and inclusive lens guided by ACTFL standards, the World Language Department goals, and the school’s mission.
Advanced proficiency in French according to ACTFL proficiency guidelines
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in French (or applicable field).
Experience in independent schools.
Training, experience, or familiarity teaching in an IB framework is ideal but not required.
Have experience in and a commitment to differentiated learning and a strong pedagogical approach to supporting diverse learners.
A commitment to a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy to engage and honor all learners and embrace diverse perspectives.
Implement goals set forth by the NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements for the Novice Learner.
