SUMMARY:
The Science Department seeks a full-time Upper School Chemistry teacher. Candidates must be flexible and collaborative in their planning, teaching, and assessing. The Masters School uses the Harkness method to maintain an atmosphere of collaboration to build knowledge and learn from one another. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to teach four sections and to work with a dynamic team of science teachers within the larger 5-12th grade department. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and is eager to support Upper School students in learning how to take an active role in their own learning. We are looking for candidates who have also demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside the classroom. The right candidate for this position will have the ability to design and implement creative inquiry-based experiments and lessons that will facilitate student learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach four sections of chemistry (flexibility to teach other subjects is highly preferred)
Successfully engage and develop students’ interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all school events.
Participate in the life of the Upper School by attending full group activities (morning meetings, student presentations and performances and culminating events).
Serve as an advisor to a group of students after the first year of teaching.
Proctor Study Hall and participate in non-teaching responsibilities, such as advising a club, coaching, or leading a co-curricular after school.
Qualifications:
Understanding of and desire to work with Upper School students.
Ability and flexibility to teach courses in chemistry, biology and/or physics preferred
Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency.
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently.
Interest in and aptitude for building new programs/classes/learning experiences.
Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required, Masters preferred.
At least three years of teaching experience is preferred.
