Job Summary:
St. Thomas School is seeking a culturally competent, full-service Human Resources Manager with a strong generalist background and a positive approach to working with all levels of our community. The successful candidate must be passionate about working with and helping people while maintaining appropriate boundaries and a sense of humor. The HR Manager is a member of the school’s Business Office and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of HR functions; managing the employee lifecycle including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and employee leaves. The HR Manager will be involved in building, implementing and enforcing STS employee policies & procedures and will also be involved in building & providing training to STS faculty & staff. The HR Manager must be able to handle sensitive issues with discretion & confidentiality, and approach the job with a problem-solving, service orientation.
Specific Responsibilities:
Oversee the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for employees.
Ensure excellence in the recruiting process, including managing job postings, assisting the hiring managers in the interview & screening process and onboarding.
Maintain accurate employment documentation and ensure proper record-keeping.
Maintaining and optimizing HR information systems (HRIS) to accurately track employee data, generate reports, and streamline processes.
Collaborate with accounting to reconcile benefits vendor invoices & ensure accurate deductions in employee records.
Implementing and administering employee benefits plans, including health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans. Leading the annual benefits open enrollment process from employee education to enrolling employees with benefit providers.
Conducting benefits orientations for new hires and answering employee questions regarding their benefits. Providing expanded employee onboarding to new employees.
Reviewing and processing employee leave requests, determining eligibility based on company policies and applicable laws, and communicating decisions to employees and managers.
Serve as first contact point for employee issues: mediation, de-escalation, fact-based inquiries.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including labor laws and workplace requirements including.
Assist in managing internal pay transparency, including external salary benchmarking and managing internal pay scales, pay bands and pay grades.
Generate salary & stipend agreements for employees.
Assisting in the payroll process including reviewing timecards, time-off requests and answering questions on leave accruals.
Collaborate with finance, accounting and other internal operations teams to implement appropriate workplace policies and procedures including developing and maintaining the employee handbook, benefits guides, and other resources and documentation for employees.
Ensure STS employment practices and procedures advance the school’s work to create and an inclusive and diverse community where all members can say “I belong”.
Participate in the full life of STS, including daily school duties and attending certain STS events.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university strongly preferred.
3 – 7 years’ experience in Human Resources or People Operations required.
Direct experience building and running HR processes, including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and leave management.
Familiarity with labor/employment law and HR regulations.
SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong writing and communication skills across all channels—including written, phone/audio-only, Teams, and in-person.
High emotional intelligence (EQ) and ability to elegantly navigate difficult situations.
Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a keen eye for detail.
A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn and grow within the role.
Proficient in Paycom or similar HRIS system strongly preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to maintain confidential information at all times.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to sit and keyboard for up to 8 hours per day & lift up to 30 pounds (file boxes).
