The Public Utilities Commission ("Commission") regulates all chartered, franchised, certificated, and registered public service companies operating in the State of Hawaii that provide electricity, telecommunication, gas, private water and wastewater, motor and water carrier transportation services and other entities as required by law. The Commission has statutory authority to enforce applicable state statutes, and to establish and enforce administrative rules and regulations, and to set policies and standards.
The Engineer VI manages engineering support services for the Commission’s regulatory programs; evaluates the compliance of regulated public utilities with respect to applicable rules, statutes, and orders; and provides technical engineering data, reports, and staff advisory services to support energy, gas, water, and wastewater-related analyses, policies and regulation.
The Engineer VI supervises the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and reviewing the activities, reports, and work projects of the professional staff engineers in the conduct of engineering studies, investigations, and evaluation of the operations, applications, services, safety programs, and facilities of the regulated entities. Serves as an engineering technical resource in the evaluation of specific designs or in various engineering areas and/or activities.
6 years of progressively engineering experience related to electric grid design, system design, construction, maintenance, and operations
2 yearsof supervisory or staff advisory experience
Possess a valid Hawaii State Professional Engineer license
Bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
The State of Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) regulates all chartered, franchised, certificated, and registered public utility companies operating in the State; reviews and approves rates, tariffs, charges and fees; determines the allowable rate of earnings in establishing rates; issues guidelines concerning the general management of franchised or certificated utility businesses; and acts on requests for the acquisition, sale, disposition or other exchange of utility properties, including mergers and consolidations.
