POSITION OVERVIEW
Laguna Blanca School seeks a full-time Director of Athletics to oversee the interscholastic athletic programs for Grades EK-12. This role reports directly to the Head of School and is integral to maintaining the school’s commitment to athletic excellence and student development.We seek a candidate who inspires students to grow in their athletic abilities, sportsmanship, and love for physical activity while fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience. At Laguna Blanca, our athletic programs provide opportunities for students of all ability levels to compete, learn, and excel. With 24 teams across the Middle and Upper Schools and state-of-the-art facilities, including tennis and sand volleyball courts, our student-athletes thrive under the guidance of dedicated coaches. Our proud history of athletic achievement includes many students who go on to compete at the collegiate level. We are seeking a leader who can champion these experiences for Laguna Blanca students across all grade levels. This role is vital in nurturing a culture of dedication, teamwork, and personal growth, ensuring every student has the opportunity to participate in at least one sport season per year or pursue independent athletic endeavors.
Responsible for overall supervision of the interscholastic athletic programs of the school (Grades EK-12)
Prepares and monitors the Athletic Department's budget
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of coaches in the Department
Monitors the athletic eligibility of students for participation in CIF competition
Supervises and collaborates with the school’s Athletics Coordinator to ensure smooth operation and administration of athletic events, event logistics, and scheduling
Supervises the school’s Athletic Trainer who monitors the health and physical readiness of students for participation in athletic activities
Approves purchases and distributes, collects, and maintains the inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms with the assistance of the coaches
Collects and compiles scores and written game summaries for all varsity teams
Prepares the fall, winter, and spring sports schedules and posts on the school website
Maintains Varsity team records on the CIF Home Page site
Responsible for final approval of the scheduling, rescheduling, or cancellation of all athletic contests
Ensures the media publication of all sports scores and special athletic accomplishments by the school's athletes and their teams
Coordinates attendance at weekly Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table media lunches as well as other local events
Coordinates transportation for team travel
Schedules, coordinates, and pays officials for home games
Organizes athletic assemblies, awards programs, and other special activities
Serves as the school's representative for CIF meetings, Tri-County Athletic Association (Upper School) and CAL (Middle School) meetings
Oversees the athletics section of the school website with the Director of Communications
Serves as a member of the Leadership Team
Responsible for set up and game management for all athletic events
Coordinates and supervises the Independent PE program
Works with facilities crew to ensure field/gym are set up properly
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience as an athletic director; working with CIF rules preferred.
Experience and/or ability to organize and lead a variety of sports and physical education activities.
Knowledge of athletic training principles and injury prevention to support student-athlete well-being.
Proven experience in preparing teams for competitions, organizing athletic events, and collaborating effectively with coaches and staff.
Ability to engage and support a wide range of student athletic abilities and learning styles.
Interest in collegial collaboration, interdisciplinary teaching, and alignment of athletic programs from EK-12.
Proficiency in using technology for athletic scheduling, communication, and student-athlete performance tracking.
High energy level and positive attitude with a commitment to fostering team spirit and sportsmanship.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this role is $98,000 - $116,000 and is dependent upon years of experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and retirement.
