Summary:
The position seeks a passionate and experienced Middle School Librarian to join our team, beginning in August 2025. The ideal candidate will align with our school’s mission, vision, and goals, embracing a collaborative spirit while infusing enthusiasm and energy into our library programs. We are looking for individuals who are independent, creative, and eager to design library initiatives that nurture curiosity, encourage inquiry, and foster a lifelong love of reading among our students.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Implementation:
- Design and deliver a comprehensive information and media literacy curriculum for Middle School students in grades 6-8.
- Collaborate with faculty to teach project-based research skills and develop a curriculum that integrates 21st-century skills alongside information literacy and technology.
- Work with Middle School leadership to ensure library resources and practices are aligned with the curriculum.
Student Advocacy and Engagement:
- Understand and appreciate the unique needs of adolescents, promoting a culture of reading that inspires lifelong enthusiasm.
- Organize engaging activities such as book clubs, book talks, mock Newbery Awards, and creative displays to cultivate a vibrant reading environment.
- Curate a library collection that reflects diverse and multicultural authors and topics, empowering students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and adept researchers.
Library Department Collaboration:
- Develop and maintain the Middle School library curriculum, including scope and sequence.
- Oversee the management of the library's collection—both print and digital—encompassing circulation, collection development, inventory, and evaluation.
- Participate actively in special initiatives such as book fairs and author visits, enhancing the library's connection with the school community.
- Assist with supervisory duties and library monitoring as assigned, contributing to a supportive and organized library environment.
- Engage in a professional learning community with colleagues to share ideas and best practices.
- Collaborate with K-5 Librarian to ensure a cohesive library curriculum
- Support the library environment including: maintaining collections & databases, re-shelving, book repairs
Middle School Responsibilities
- Writing Support: Partner with ELA teacher to support 8th-grade students in writing recommendations and personal statements for high school applications.
- High School Counseling Support: Partner with the HS placement team to ensure students receive writing support aligned with school expectations.
- Serve as a Middle School advisor, providing social emotional, and academic support.
Environment Creation:
- Foster a joyful, vibrant, and welcoming atmosphere within the library that encourages student engagement and exploration.
