The Advancement team receives tremendous support from ‘Iolani’s alumni and parent communities and the Board of Governors, who all partner with Advancement for these efforts.
Job Summary: 'Iolani School seeks a dynamic and experienced Director of Endowed Funds and Philanthropic Partnerships to join our Advancement Department. This critical position will manage and expand our endowed funds and grant portfolio while contributing to major gift fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational and customer service skills, a passion for education, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, foundations, and community leaders. Fundraising experience is not required but is a plus. This position profoundly impacts the school community by maintaining and growing funds that support financial aid, programmatic needs, and ‘Iolani’s extensive community service and community science initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities:
Endowed Funds & Grants
Manage and Grow Endowed Funds: Oversee all aspects of the school’s endowed funds, ensuring effective stewardship of endowed fund donors and alignment with institutional goals. Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to develop strategies for growing the endowment.
Grant Stewardship & Strategies: Maintain and grow relationships with current grantors while identifying and pursuing new grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and individual donors. Prepare compelling proposals, reports, and applications to secure funding in alignment with the school’s priorities.
Grant Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all grants, ensuring compliance with funder requirements. Provide timely and detailed reports to donors and funding organizations on the impact of their contributions.
Fundraising Assistance
Donor Stewardship: Develop and maintain strong relationships with major donors through regular communication, appreciation, and recognition. Ensure that donors feel valued and informed about the impact of their gifts.
Cultivate Major Donors: When possible, build upon existing relationships to identify, cultivate, and help the team solicit major gifts among high-net-worth donors.
Collaboration
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including leaders of the KA’I Programs, Citizen Science, and other Sullivan Center community service initiatives, to ensure that donor relations, fundraising, and grant processes are integrated and effective.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree in related field is preferred.
5-7 years of experience in Advancement, Development, or related industry. Experience in an independent school or higher education setting is preferred.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Experience providing exceptional customer service to various stakeholders.
Knowledge of best practices in endowed funds management and grant writing is desired but not required.
Familiarity with fundraising software and donor databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Blackbaud) is also a plus.
Collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relationships.
Passionate about education and the mission of ‘Iolani School and a clear understanding of the school’s mission and values.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
A high level of positive energy and initiative.
Ability to solicit major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
