Supervisor: Director of Physical Education & Athletics

Description of Position
This is a full-time teaching and coaching position. The primary responsibility of the position is to teach physical education and health. Physical education is part of the curriculum of every grade, PS - 8, so the grades taught may vary. All PE teachers are expected to coach in the LCDS Middle School athletic program. Most practices occur during the school day. Ideally, the person who accepts this role, will participate in our Swim Program and possess or develop the skills to become director of our Swim Program. Other responsibilities include attending meetings and performing various duties that are required of all full-time teachers.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Teach or co-teach students in the lower school grades (grades 1-5)
Coach Middle School sports all three seasons
Train to become the Director of the Swim Program, to include coaching and administering both the Swim Team and our Swim Lessons for Early Years students
Assist the PE Staff with administrative and athletic set up duties for on campus events
Possess or acquire (at the school’s expense) a CDL to drive a school bus
Deliver academic and athletic experiences that are consistent with the school’s mission
Connect and build positive relationships with students
Perform various administrative tasks expected of all teachers, including but not limited to recording and communicating student progress to parents, writing report card comments, assessing student, and keeping an up-to-date gradebook
Perform various duties expected of all teachers, including but not limited to student supervision during lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal
Attend some events that occur after the school day that all teachers are expected to attend, including but not limited to faculty meetings and Back to School Nights.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to seek professional development opportunities.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is preferred), preferably in Physical Education or Health Education
All necessary background checks
Experience teaching PE and/or Health
Experience working with children: 3 years or more preferred
Ability to positively interact, teach, and mentor children from the ages of four to fourteen
Strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a high level of energy, creativity, and flexibility
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and get along with other members of the school community, resolving conflicts in a professional manner
Comfort level using technology and incorporating it into teaching
