Specific responsibilities for this position include:
- Serve as Spanish teacher for middle school classes
- Develop all four modalities into instruction: reading, writing, speaking and listening
- Employ high-quality, student-centered instruction using evidence-based practices to support all learners’ growth in Spanish language acquisition
- Assess students’ skills and knowledge to refine classroom practices and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals
- Create rich learning environment that engages students, develops their understanding, celebrates the cultures in Spanish speaking countries, and cultivates an appreciation of why multilingualism is a critical 21st century skill
- Integrate instructional and recordkeeping strategies using Google Suite, and/or other appropriate technology
- Create instructional programming that promotes the academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth of students in an all-girls school.
- Be flexible, open-minded, and a self-driven team member
- Serve as an advisor, collaborate with a team of teachers on extracurricular programming, and provide faculty support to a club or activity
Qualifications for this position are:
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, including the social, emotional, and intellectual domains
- Creative, imaginative, and possess a growth-mindset in teaching, coaching, and curricular design
- BA/BS degree in Spanish education or related field, Masters degree preferred
- Knowledge and experience teaching a rigorous Spanish curriculum in order to prepare students to enter grade 9 at Spanish 2 or above.
- High energy level, creative and forward-thinking
- Strong work ethic and a caring temperament
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative skills, including the ability to work with colleagues and parents
- A sense of humor, warmth, and a love of working with students and their families
