The SCADA Specialist provides SCADA operational support and real-time SCADA programmatic updates to transmission assets. Converts existing drawings to the RTU while maintaining effective relationships with various departments. Performs system studies and monitors and evaluates data to ensure good reliability of the system.
Responsibilities
Coordinates with TOC operators in making real-time SCADA programatic updates to transmission assets in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) network model. Updates include mobile transformer installations or deletions, permanent transmission line additions, deletions, or temporary changes, as well as any additional system condition modifications.
Converts existing drawings of transmission dispatching substations, lines, switches and other assets to digitally tie the asset to the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) using Open Systems International (OSI) SCADA software. Maintain pertinent technical library materials.
Provides day-to-day SCADA operational support by maintaining, troubleshooting, and moderating SCADA software/hardware and process control applications.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the Transmission Operations Center (TOC) operators, Engineering, Technology and Security departments, and Field Operations Technicians, to oversee the SCADA commissioning process for all new or upgraded transmission assets, including substation and switching station infrastructure.
Performs transmission system studies to support real-time and day ahead markets, and future planned outages.
Monitor and evaluate data and control of the SCADA system for the TOC Operators to ensure good reliability of the system.
May be required to serve as a backup/relief TOC operator on occasion to supplement shift coverage during periods of operator vacations or other similar circumstances.
The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
Due to an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Pursuant to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act 593, this position is a designated safety-sensitive position according to AECC/AECI standards and processes.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related discipline plus 3 years of Engineering, Operations, IT or other utility experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
NERC Transmission Operator certification, either the RC or TO certification.
In-depth knowledge of current MISO and SPP standards, operating policies, procedures, and guidelines. In-depth knowledge of interconnected transmission system operations, generation characteristics, and electric utility power system control systems and practices.
Advanced knowledge of electric transmission or distribution systems.
Knowledge of SCADA operating systems and network topology.
Effective communication and influencing skills, both written and oral, with the ability to share information and ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to work independently to effectively solve problems.
