Position Overview:
Episcopal School of Jacksonville (ESJ)’s Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) encompasses Advancement, Marketing, Admission, and Enrollment, supporting and stewarding a student and family through their Episcopal journey. The Director of Development for the St. Mark’s Campus leads and manages all aspects of the campus’ fundraising initiatives, playing a crucial role in advancing the school’s mission by building and strengthening relationships with donors, parents, and other stakeholders to secure financial support for the school. The role reports to the Director of The Episcopal Fund and Parent Organizations (based on the Munnerlyn Campus) and the Head of Lower School, St. Mark’s Campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Strategy & Execution:
Oversee the planning and execution of all fundraising efforts, including but not limited to The Episcopal Fund (annual fund), Ortega River Run, A Vision for Art, Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, and occasional capital campaigns and special projects
Build and maintain genuine relationships with current and prospective donors, including parents, grandparents, community members, and businesses
Solicit and secure event sponsors to support school fundraising initiatives, cultivating strong relationships with sponsors and ensuring the value of their contribution is recognized at each event
Set fundraising goals with the team, monitor progress, and provide detailed reports on the final amount raised
Ensure that all sponsorship commitments and levels are honored, provide timely acknowledgment of gifts and contributions, and oversee donor recognition activities to express gratitude and foster long-term engagement
Work closely with Advancement and Admission team members to identify and engage prospective major donors for gift cultivation
Event Management
Serve as the primary liaison between the fundraising volunteer committees and the school, fostering effective communication and collaboration
Coordinate and schedule committee meetings for The Episcopal Fund Parent Representatives and event-based committees to execute the Ortega River Run, A Vision for Art, and Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day
Manage the procurement of all necessary supplies and materials for events to ensure smooth execution.
Prepare and submit detailed set-up instructions, including timelines, to ensure events are organized and executed efficiently
Oversee the financial management and budgeting, ensuring accurate tracking of expenses and adherence to budgetary guidelines
Coordinate with external vendors, manage orders, process payments, and oversee setup and teardown logistics
Configure and implement the required back-end software, Greater Giving, for A Vision for Art
Support the Director of Marketing and Parent Organizations by attending parent organization events and helping day-of (if needed)
Community Engagement & Marketing:
Work closely with the communications team to create marketing materials, including, but not limited to, sponsor solicitation materials, invitations, solicitation materials, event articles, social media content, and event results
Prepare and deliver the required content for the Report of Philanthropy for events and fundraising related to the St. Mark’s Campus
Ensure that the school’s mission and values are reflected in all fundraising and communications efforts
Collaboration and Flexibility:
Collaborate with the three-campus Advancement Team and the St. Mark’s Campus Admin Team to align development priorities with the school’s strategic vision and streamline efforts across campuses and departments
Support additional admin responsibilities on the St. Mark’s Campus, including but not limited to morning carpool duty, afternoon dismissal duty, front desk duty, and supporting “all hands on deck” moments
Working Conditions:
Full-time, year-round position
Evening and weekend hours required for occasional events and meetings
Expected to work on-site at the St. Mark’s Campus, with flexibility based on school needs
Attend bi-weekly meetings at the Munnerlyn Campus with the full Advancement team (and additional meetings/events on other campuses as needed)
SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree required, 7+ years of relevant experience
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Outstanding organizational skills
High energy and stamina to succeed in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire generosity in others
Professional and polished with a focus on hospitality and helping people feel immediately welcome
Passion for education, particularly early childhood
Desire to build trust and strong relationships with the internal ESJ community as well as key constituents and organizations in Northeast Florida
Highly proficient with general computer operations, Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); previous database experience needed
Ability to quickly learn and gain proficiency with the processes, database, and school knowledge
Motivated self-starter who can take a project and run with it without much direction or micromanagement
Servant leader mindset - go above and beyond to help others and serve our school community
Ability to be flexible and to think and respond quickly when something unexpected happens
