Heronfield Academy seeks a part-time School Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year who will lead the school forward in attending to the mental health and wellness of the students in the community. In this role, which may cover 15-20 hours per week, a qualified person would work alongside the administration and the faculty in meeting the social and emotional needs of young people. The person in this position would meet with students in small groups or individually, teach weekly health and wellness classes, and develop and deliver programming to elevate the community’s approach to social and emotional wellness. In addition, this position would serve as a bridge to individual families and the collective parent community on an array of topics related to mental health. This position is well-suited to someone who leads with energy and expertise and is excited to develop a new program. This is a ten-month position, running from mid-August to mid-June.
Primary responsibilities include:
Being a positive, active and visible member of the school’s faculty and staff
Overseeing all aspect of mental health and wellness in the school community
Developing and delivering programs to support and elevate student mental health at Heronfield
Serving as a professional resource for the faculty and staff in all aspects of the school program
Teaching weekly health & wellness classes for middle school students
Communicating thoughtfully and proactively with parents on variety of mental health-related topics
Serving as a mental health liaison between school and home, in both calm and challenging moments
Serving on the school’s leadership team, including attending weekly meetings to discuss upcoming events and the overall operations of the school with social-emotional wellness in mind
The ideal candidate will have:
A MA, MS, MSW, or MEd in school counseling or a related field
A commitment to the mission and core values of the school and to the growth of young people
Strong interpersonal and management skills with the ability to complete tasks quickly and consistently
Three years of demonstrated experience in working with adolescents in a school setting
Strong verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience with position-related technology including database management and Google office applications
A proactive, positive, team-oriented approach to bringing all measures of success to the school
