The Associate Director serves as a team leader within the Center of Student Success & Coaching and provides oversight to areas under Academic & Career Success, Student Involvement, and/or Residence Life & Community Standards. Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director ensures delivery of essential services and programing to ensure student retention, persistence and degree completion. The Associate Director is responsible for execution of programming to engage students and create a vibrant campus life. The Associate Director will work as a member of the leadership team within the Center of Student Success & Coaching and will oversee all operations, services and will assist leadership with strategic planning.
Principal Responsibilities:
Overall management of the daily operations of the Center of Student Success & Coaching, including serving on the departmental leadership team to ensure successful execution of academic and career success, student engagement, residence life and community standards, student programming, LIU Cares, and/or other key student affairs functions
Supervise and mentor a team of professional staff members including establishing goals and fostering professional development opportunities, monitor goals for team and meet recruitment and retention goals
Hold regular team meetings and staff one-on-one meetings
Facilitate, participate and oversee training/development programs for professional staff
Serve as primary advisor and success coach for working caseload of students as needed
Collaborate with various offices to support recruitment and retention efforts and events
Support the student experience through the LIU four-year model from pre-enrollment through graduation
Assist in pre-enrollment, admissions, orientation, campus, and career activities reinforcing the importance of a collective, integrated college experience geared toward academic and career success
Prepare students for their transition to the college, and integrate new students into the intellectual, cultural, and social life of the University
Plan and execute campus programming, including but not limited to campus engagement, student involvement, career success and academic success
Ensure accurate academic advisement to each student, specifically through the progression of the initial registration upon acceptance to major/degree selection as it pertains to career interests and pursuits
Interpret career assessment instruments and provide career resources/advisement, developing a timely career track congruent with students’ academic pursuits
Assess need for and provide override/approval access to financial aid, academic advising and other pertinent campus functions
Attend meetings, participate in campus-wide committees, and assist with annual projects and events assigned
Coordinate with counterpart(s) on other campuses to ensure a streamlined and uniform LIU student experience

Leads the advancement of student success, retention, and persistence goals by utilizing best-practices and current research related to student success
Ensures students’ progression toward their educational goal is monitored and that success coaches utilizes various strategies/tools to address academic persistence, engagement and completion
Facilitate academic workshop series including the topics of time management, notetaking, self-registration tutorials, and other programming to promote academic success of students
Coordinates and supports the First-Year Experience including planning and executing New Student Orientation and Convocation
Support all functions of Career Success for the LIU community in accordance with the NACE Standards
Guides and advises students through study abroad options through LIU Global or faculty-led study abroad opportunities
Coordinate and support the Legacy Campaign in conjunction with SGA class representatives for first and second year class gift
Associate Director Area Specializations: Third & Fourth Year Student Success
Leads the advancement of student success, retention, and persistence goals by utilizing best-practices and current research related to student success
Ensures students’ progression toward their educational goal is monitored and that success coaches utilizes various strategies/tools to address academic persistence, engagement and completion
Facilitate academic workshop series including the topics of time management, notetaking, self-registration tutorials, and other programming to promote academic success of students
Support all functions of Career Success for the LIU community in accordance with the NACE Standards
Assist with the monitoring and tracking of LIU Handshake including student profile completion, resume competition, internship placement and student employment outcomes
Execute campus wide career support/success workshops, programs and events. Plan, facilitate and execute student employment initiatives including on campus employment fair and career/internship expos
Work collaboratively with the Alumni and Employer Relations Office
Guides and advises students through study abroad options through LIU Global or faculty-led study abroad opportunities
Coordinate and support the Legacy Campaign in conjunction with SGA class representatives for third year and senior class gift
Associate Director Area Specializations: Graduate & International Student Success
Leads the advancement of student success, retention, and persistence goals by utilizing best-practices and current research related to student success
Ensures students’ progression toward their educational goal is monitored and that success coaches utilizes various strategies/tools to address academic persistence, engagement and completion
Facilitate academic workshop series including the topics of time management, notetaking, self-registration tutorials, and other programming to promote academic success of students
Support all functions of Career Success for the LIU community in accordance with the NACE Standards
Ensures academic and personal support to international students including overlooking compliance with immigration procedures, SEVIS and all needed support
Associate Director Area Specializations: Residence Life
Plan and execute a marketing plan for student on campus housing selection
Assist with all functions of LIU Housing operation accordance with the ACUHO-I
Manage all residence hall facilities upgrades, repairs and renovation planning
Develops and revises residence hall policies and procedures
Ensures robust programming within the residence halls throughout the week and weekends
Advises and supports the growth of Residence Hall Association (RHA)
Support efforts for enrollment and marketing of Learning Communities
Assist with campus efforts to comply with immunizations regulations meeting Public Health Law compliance
Recruit, train and hire a cohort of student leaders to serve as orientation leaders, resident assistants and student workers
Associate Director Area Specializations: Campus Life
Develop campus-wide programming, traditions and initiatives that enhance a vibrant campus life experience for all students, both residing on-campus and commuting.
Provide leadership to LIU Cares, the University-wide service initiative by creating opportunities on-campus and in the community.
Facilitate the student leadership program and manage student organizations including Clubs & Orgs and Fraternity & Sorority Life
Coordinate the Legacy Campaign in conjunction with Student Government Association (SGA) in giving a class gift
Support the growth and development of the E-sports program including managing inventory of recreational and sports league equipment, ensuring they are sufficient for program needs
Develop and execute new student orientation programs and all welcome week programming
Create, design and execute marketing material for all campus events
Recruit, train and hire a cohort of student leaders to serve as orientation leaders, resident assistants and student workers
Provide weekend and evening coverage of student life and student organization programs
Education Requirements:
Master’s Degree Required
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
At least 2-4 years of progressively professional experience in higher education, student affairs; sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Proven track record of success managing co-curricular activities and/or academic support services.
Appreciation for cultural differences and global values.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Facility with database management systems.
High energy and enthusiasm to work with students and propel them toward success
Working Conditions:
Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to execute the position’s role responsibly.
Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings, meetings and other university functions.
